WOW. This thingy sounds really cool..
Korean actress Lee Ji Ah left a message promoting the Youtube Symphony Orchestra. This is truly a daring mission to assemble the first GLOBAL orchestra on a virtual platform that will connect gifted musicians from all over the world. This must bring a lot of excitement to Classical musicians and enthusiasts.
Coming fresh from the end of her recent drama, “Beethoven Virus,” Lee Ji Ah sat down in a short video asking the global audience to tap their hidden talents. Coincidently, Ji Ah played the role of a young, promising violinist in the Korean drama, “Beethoven Virus,” which received rave reviews and many awards and accollades this year for its touching story-line and moving performance by the actors.
The drama was about a few determined musicians, including the violinist played by Ji Ah, who wanted to create a community orchestra of all ages bound by a passion to accomplish the impossible and perform on an elite stage. Ji Ah’s Youtube promotion fits well with her role in the drama as she calls for a global community of musicians to bring their own passions and talents for the world to see.
Lee Ji Ah was quite impressive, she shot two videos – one in Korean and the other in English! Check it out HERE
So for all you Classical musicians out there, how do you participate in the world’s first collaborative online orchestra and become a part of music history? Check out http://www.youtube.com/symphony.
Here’s a quick introduction by Youtube of their endeavor:
Professionals and amateur musicians of all ages, locations and instruments are welcome to audition for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra by submitting a video performance of a new piece written for the occasion by the renowned Chinese composer Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). We have tools to help you learn the music, rehearse with the conductor, and upload your part for the collaborative video.
Finalists will be chosen by a judging panel and YouTube users to travel to New York in April 2009, to participate in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra summit, and play at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.
The deadline for all video submissions is January 28, 2009.
Good luck to all!
